About the tour

The heart "beat" of the tour initiative is to raise funds for the distribution of Bibles to the less fortunate.

Cyclists from the Mosaiek cycling community initiated project AROLA in 2014 for the inaugural AROLA Cycle Tour now streching from Johannesburg to Bloemfontein, 483km in three days. The tour offers a variety of terrain and landscapes and is rated medium in terms of difficulty, the terrain varies from Ertjies Hill to the undulating Free State mielie (maize) and sunflower landscapes.

The tour origianaly took place between Parys and Bloemfontein over the past 14 years where over R2m rand has been raised by cyclist towards bible distrubution under the leaderdhip of Ds Gerrie van Dyk, Dawie Borman and Dr Piet du Toit.

AROLA means “distribute” in the South Sotho language and is widely spoken in the Free State province, a name appropriately chosen as this annual cycle tour ends in Bloemfontein, the capital of the province.

Over the past two Arola tours the Mosaiek cycling community have contributed to the distribution of 1670 Bibles which formed part of the total of 7000 Bibles distributed in the larger initiative of the tour.

There are also cyclists from various cities and towns who are riding for Bible distribution.  In excess of a 100 riders join the group along the route.
